Neptune's ring arcs from VLT/SPHERE-IRDIS near-infrared observations

چکیده
Context. Neptune’s incomplete ring arcs have been stable since their discovery in 1984 by stellar occultation. Although these structures should be destroyed within a few months through differential Keplerian motion, imaging data over the past couple of decades shown that remain stable.

Astrometry and Near-infrared Photometry of Neptune’s Inner Satellites and Ring Arcs
We report 1.87 lm photometry and astrometry of the inner satellites (Proteus, Larissa, Galatea, and Despina) and ring arcs of Neptune, obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope and its near-infrared camera NICMOS. From comparison with the Voyager data obtained at visible wavelengths, the small bodies orbiting within the ring region of Neptune have a near-infrared albedo consistently low, but hig...
متن کاملOptimal column density measurements from multiband near-infrared observations
We consider from a general point of view the problem of determining the extinction in dense molecular clouds. We use a rigorous statistical approach to characterize the properties of the most widely used optical and infrared techniques, namely the star count and the color excess methods. We propose a new maximum-likelihood method that takes advantage of both star counts and star colors to provi...
متن کاملRemote Observations in the near Infrared
We present our experiences in remote observations in Near Infrared bands operating a bidimensional instrument ARNICA. ARNICA, an infrared CCD detector operating at a telescope (TIRGO, Gornergrat, Switzerland) was controlled by an observer from Firenze, Italy. Despite the rather slow Internet link available, we were able to perform the observations in quite an acceptable way. The user interface ...
متن کاملNear-infrared Observations of Iras Minisurvey Galaxies
Near-infrared photometry at /, H, and K has been obtained for 82 galaxies from the IRAS minisurvey, a sample of infrared-selected galaxies. The near-infrared colors of these galaxies are similar to those of normal field spiral galaxies, but cover a larger range inJ — H and H — K. There is evidence of a tighter correlation between the nearand far-infrared emission than exists between the far-inf...
متن کاملAmplification of near-infrared light in a photorefractive ring resonator
We have demonstrated efficient amplification of near-infrared, 0.83-μm and 1.06-μm light, in a photorefractive ring resonator using Rh:BaTiO3. The optical power oscillating inside the ring exceeded the pump power by a factor of up to 2.34. The sensitivity of a ring resonator to nanometer changes in its length was characterised using a piezo-mirror. PACS: 42.65. Hw; 42.70.Nq; 42.60.Da Photorefra...
